Arts and culture scholarship

Oslo municipality has created a new scholarship scheme for arts and culture. The scholarship is intended to ensure quality, innovation, research, availability and width in the arts and culture. The scheme will also be of enrichment for the city's cultural life and for the benefit of the municipality's residents.

Artists, cultural workers and researchers in all art forms may apply. With the exception of applicants to the Munch and Vigeland Scholarship, all applicants must have a registered address in Oslo in order to apply for the scholarships.

The scholarship replaces Oslo City's Annual Cultural Grants (Oslo Bys Kulturstipend) and Munch and Vigeland scholarships awarded every other year, but please note that the scholarship does not replace the City of Oslo Art Price and Culture (Oslo kommunes Kulturspris og Kunstnerpris).

Next application deadline is 15.May 2013 - Open for electronic application ca. 1.April 2013

The scholarship period is 1.January 2013 - 31.December 2014


Please note that is as an individual arist it is only possible to apply for one schoarship per year

THE SCHOLARSHIP CONTAINS SIX CATEGORIES
 


Munch and Vigeland Scholarship
  • Innovative research or research dissemination in connection with the Munch, Vigeland, Stenersen and Art in Oslo's collections.

Scholarship for young talented artists within  voluntary cultural field
  • Young artists who recruit and work on a voluntary basis in various arts and cultural genres

Scholarship for artists in the establishment phase

  • Young artists in the establishment phase of Oslo

International artist exchange scheme
  • Stay at a foreign institution where formal invitation is submitted
 
Culture Scholarship
  • Build on: Oslo as a music city, with particular emphasis on ethnic minorities or innovative non-commercial projects
 

Various Scholarship

  • Production, work, study, materials and travel

As a general rule, only individuals can receive scholarships. However, the scholarship is open for applications from joint projects / artist groups if all the participants seek separately with the exception of the groups that are registered as an independent entity in the Company Register.

Proposed framework for the various scholarships can be transferred to other categories if there are no qualified applicants are received.



The applications must contain a project proposal and budget attached to the application. Furthermore, the application must include a complete overview of education, and artistic and / or scientific production (CV), or documentation of previous work, depending on which grant is sought for. There will be further described how the grant will be the city's inhabitants, see § 8 of the Regulations for Oslo's scholarship to art and culture.
